Kiwi Juice Company

Kiwi Juice Company established in Gisborne in 2014.

The premise that Unigreen operates on is that Gisborne produces fantastic fruit, and that Gisborne fruits make fantastic fruit juices. The unique combination of the Gisborne summer and the regions fertile soils creates flavour-packed fruit. We rely on the availability of juice-grade fruit that may not make first grade because of a cosmetic blemish or they may simply be too big for supermarket sale, but retain their delicious character. A diverse range of fruit is grown and exported from the Gisborne region; much of which is harvested and exported almost year round.

Our goal is to create healthy juices using local fruit and natural ingredients. Our modern pasteurise and fill plant ensures a stable product with medium shelf-life. We don’t use fruit concentrates in any of our products – they are all made with single strength juice or puree.

Our team has many years of combined experience in the winemaking and fruit processing industries, and also has considerable skills in Research and Development. With a new plant to play with and an exciting recipe list, they are dedicated to producing the best tasting, high quality juices on offer.

At Kiwi Juice Unigreen have invested in new production facilities at our plant in Gisborne. During the past 2 years We have installed a fruit receival system (which includes a receival hopper, grading table, and washer), as well as a refiner to produce fruit purees, and a mill and screw press to process apples. We also have compressed air bag presses to produce high quality grape juice. We installed a pasteuriser and bottling plant with a capacity of 3-4000 bottles per hour. The bottles are hot-filled and laid down for 20 seconds to sterilise the bottle and lid, then cooled with chilled water and air to bring the juice down to ambient temperature as quickly as possible. Moderate temperatures during pasteurisation keeps the juice in optimum condition for 12 months. Our goal is to retain as much of the natural fruit goodness and flavour with the minimum of processing and no additives.

We have established an extensive MPI registered Food Safety Programme that ensures every identifiable risk in our process is quantified and addressed. We are also registered as a food manufacturing facility with the Gisborne District Council.
